Friends,
Let’s just skip past the humble brag and the pretending we are not beyond excited. Our company, Financial Wellness Strategies was just featured in THE Wall Street Journal. Both digital and print. This was a huge milestone for us, given that FWS is technically only a year old.
Yes, the work we do has been happening in some form or another since my first book “How to Be a Financial Grownup” came out in 2016, and evolved further with “Launching Financial Grownups.”
But the validation of being in such an important publication is a big milestone.
AND it validates the need for financial wellness education within family units. With parents supporting their adult children for far longer than in previous generations, it’s that much more important for parents to feel confident in how and when to let go financially.
And perhaps we’re not giving our emerging adult children enough credit. A recent study by Northwestern Mutual finds that younger generations want to talk about family finances far earlier than previous generations:
Gen Z trusts family members and advisors – and not "FinTok" influencers – for financial advice
Millennials want to talk to parents about wills, life insurance, inheritance and long-term care plans a full decade earlier than Boomers+
Boomers+ say they had that first family financial situation conversation when they were 22, while Gen Z had it seven years earlier at age 15
There’s an emerging trend in financial services predicted to be intergenerational wealth conversations
I'd love to share more about how we can help bridge the generation gap and talk candidly about money — from helping emerging financial grownups understand basic financial literacy to helping parents lend support but knowing when to let go.
We are in it together.

We offer free consultations and are here to help get conversations started.
We can't wait to get to know you.
NEW FEATURE ALERT:
Reading, listening and watching recommendations
Some of these will be money-related but some will just be things I want to share because I think you will enjoy them.
Reading: My early copy of my friend Matt Schulz book: Ask Questions, Save Money, Make More: How to Take Control of Your Financial Life.
It is available for pre-order here.
Matt teaches us how to ask for 45 money related things including:
A lower rate on your rent or mortgage
Better financing for an auto loan
A higher salary
A refund on a canceled flight
A lower phone bill
A fair split for that group dinner
Listening: Your Money Briefing: Should ‘For Richer or Poorer’ Apply to Our Friendships?
This title of this podcast was, admittedly, total clickbait for me but the 10 minute investment of your time is well worth it. The hosts get into how to handle changes in money situations among friends and have some great suggestions on how to handle the inevitable awkward moments in life.
Watching: True Detective on HBO.
I’m two episodes in and as soon as I’m done writing this, I’m back at it. Then I’m going to circle back and watch the earlier seasons. This season (4) is getting rave reviews on podcasts like Pop Culture Happy Hour. I hear the first season was actually the next best one. Let’s discuss in the comments.
What winter? Let’s do some beach reading.
Pick up a copy of “Launching Financial Grownups: Live Your Richest Life by Helping Your (Almost) Adult Kids Become Everyday Money Smart” and then reach out.
I’d love to zoom into your book club or come in person to talk to your school, parents’ group or company.
I do both in-person and virtual book chats (in addition to the Financial Wellness workshops) and am actively scheduling for spring and summer 2024.
Please invite me!
Email me at bobbi@financialwellnessstrategies.com and we’ll make a date.
Here’s a little more info:
“Launching Financial Grownups” will teach GEN X-ERS AND BABY BOOMERS how to help younger generations including Millennials and Gen Z become financial grownups. We all have a stake in their success.
The book is full of ways to open the conversation about money and guide those next-generation emerging adults to live their best financial lives.
And yes, it makes a GREAT gift for parents, grandparents, and anyone in an older generation looking to learn how to help emerging adults.
Lets connect on TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn and please share any ideas in the comments (or just say hi!).
