The good news: last week the president recognized several ticketing companies — including Airbnb, SeatGeek, and Ticketmaster parent company Live Nation for committing to getting rid of hidden fees for buyers in the United States.
The bad news: they only committed to no longer HIDE the fees. Consumers will see the entire fee upfront. They did not agree to get rid of what is known as junk fees.
So what are junk fees? They are the fees that you don’t see at first when you price out a trip or purchase. But they are added to the price you pay when you are checking out. For example, a hotel might add a fee for the use of the resort amenities. Airlines will add-on fees for checked luggage or for seat selection.
